Today we’re chatting with the lovely Sarah from Bundle. Mums to be, you NEED to know about this brand! They specialise in convenience. They provide curated product bundles for mum’s hospital stay and the arrival of your baby.
They also offer a range of organic, natural products for both Mum and baby, as well as their own range of organic baby apparel. Their focus is on including high quality, natural and, wherever possible, organic products in their Bundles.
They have worked hard to bring together some of the very best options available for Mum and bub. All of their garments are ethical and sweatshop free, so you can feel good about your purchase. Developed by mums for mums. they take the time, stress and expense out of preparing your maternity hospital bag and getting ready for baby’s arrival.
Are you a mum with a business? If so, tell us a bit about yourself and your family
I was born in NZ and moved to Australia when I was just 4 years old. According to my father, on my first day of school here in Australia the kids teased me for saying ‘Jandals’…..I don’t remember this so apparently it has had no lasting affect on me! Ha ha.
My husband Troy and I have 2 beautiful children Niamh who is 6 and in Prep at School and Eamon who is just 15 months.
I’ve had a wide and varied career spanning both the Arts and Corporate world. I have worked at Gaslight Music which used to be a Melbourne Institution, Nintendo, in Accounting firms and finally at an Event & Logistics company which is where I met my husband Troy. We then went on to buy a wine store! I also studied at the Victorian College of the Arts becoming a professional opera singer, singing mostly with Victorian Opera.
When did you start your business?
I started Bundle at the end of 2013, launching at the Baby & Toddler Show in Sydney.
What was the main reason why you started your business?
When I was pregnant with my first child Niamh I was also running our boutique wine & beer store ‘Smith Street Cellars’ with my husband. We worked 7 days a week in the business and I found it very stressful trying to find the time to go out and source everything I needed for our pending arrival! Sure choosing things like cots and prams is quite exciting and fun but when it comes to things like maternity pads and nipple balm it starts to get a little tedious. And for me I was heavily pregnant by this stage and found walking around the shops tiring and I looking for toilets down right frustrating!!!!!!
Any major obstacles you had to overcome to get your business up and going?
Probably the biggest factor in getting the business off the ground was managing all of the suppliers and manufactures at once and making sure they met deadlines for the launch of the business. You have to be really onto it and never assume anything! My biggest challenge ongoing is actually protecting the brand from ‘copycat’ businesses as we grow. I think in today’s technological age with the internet and online ‘everything’ it’s so easy for people to fall into the trap of not being ‘original’.
What’s been your biggest business (or personal) achievement so far?
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t over the moon when Rebecca Judd endorsed Bundle not long after our launch. I have since had some lovely emails and feedback from people like Megan Gale, Zoe Foster Blake, Kate Ritchie, Kyly Clarke and Michelle Bridges. These women get products thrown at them all the time so to get really supportive personal messages from them has just been amazing.
Why do you like having your own business?
I started Bundle Bags with the aim of making women’s lives easier……including my own. Obviously, we are making pregnant women’s lives easier by pre-packing their maternity bags but I also wanted a business that would allow me to be flexible enough to be there for my children. I aim to get to the stage where we have a team of staff (most likely mums) who can have flexible working hours and understanding from their employer…Bundle! In December last year I took the first step towards this and hired an amazing lady by the name of Shannon who does all of our marketing, social media and more! Psst…..she’s another kiwi!
What would we find you doing on the weekends?
It really varies, we are often trying to sort out the chaos left over from the week. Kids activities or parties and pancakes on a Sunday morning! We try to go for a drive down the coast when we can.
Do you ever manage to get any ‘me’ time – if so, what do you get up to?
With a business, a 6 year old and a 1 year old it’s pretty hard to find much in the way of me-time but I do make sure I do Clinical Pilates at least once a week which I absolutely love. It gives me an hour of headspace which helps to keep me sane!
Tell me one random fact about yourself?
Family rumour has it that I am a descendant of Robert the Bruce!
Top 2 films you’re happy to watch again and again?
The Shawshank Redemption – The standout moment for me is when Andy locks himself in the office with the record player and plays the Mozart duet ‘Sull’aria…’ from The Marriage of Figaro so all the inmates can hear it…..something so beautiful and uplifting being played somewhere so bleak!
The Bourne Series – I can’t get enough of them!
